University College of Estate Management (UCEM) is inviting primary schools across Reading and the surrounding area to take part in a competition to design the Sustainable Reading Town of 2070! The competition is open to all children in Key Stage 2 (years 3, 4, 5 and 6). They need to tell us a little bit about how the town will generate energy, provide environmentally friendly transport, reduce waste, encourage nature, and the sustainable materials that might be used in construction. Each child is asked to provide a drawing or a photograph of a model to show us what their town will look like.
The competition is a fantastic and creative way to introduce sustainable living into your Design and Technology lessons. We have provided dedicated lesson plans along with teaching and learning resources which you are free to use, adapt and share in your teaching.
