{"id":380,"date":"2018-06-01T17:58:23","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T17:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.471e43c11faaf157c32bf15d6-15341.sites.k-hosting.co.uk\/onlineeducation\/?p=380"},"modified":"2018-06-01T17:59:54","modified_gmt":"2018-06-01T17:59:54","slug":"digital-assessments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/posts\/380","title":{"rendered":"Digital Assessments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-381\" src=\"http:\/\/www.471e43c11faaf157c32bf15d6-15341.sites.k-hosting.co.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/diluted-teaching.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/diluted-teaching.jpg 720w, https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/diluted-teaching-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/>Back at the end of April, I attended a conference at Brunel University on Digital Assessment.\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t been to Brunel before so it was nice to see another university campus.\u00a0 It was easy to get to from Reading and there was a short bus ride to the campus from the station.\u00a0 \u00a0 The conference was well organised and I was looking forward to attending as we are exploring how we can use online assessments to enhance our students&#8217; experience, providing\u00a0faster feedback and also more opportunities for formative learning throughout the modules.<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t go into each talk and provide a synopsis because this has been done, there was a lively chat via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bruneldigitalexams?src=hash\">#BrunelDigitalExam<\/a>s on Twitter as well as all the conference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brunel.ac.uk\/about\/education-innovation\/Digital-Assessment-Brunel\/Learning-from-Digital-Examinations-26th-April-2018#\">website itself<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What was most useful for me at the conference was being able to hear from the different perspectives of using online exams. In particular, that in Scandinavian countries the use of the term online exam refers to any online formal assessment, it doesn&#8217;t have to an exam format.\u00a0 The demonstrations from Wiseflow were interesting as well as hearing from others who have been doing more in the way of online assessments.<\/p>\n<p>The talk from Denise Whitelock was very interesting and I would like to try and adapt what she had done for our own online forums. She had taken <a href=\"http:\/\/oro.open.ac.uk\/34777\/1\/CAA-2012OMtetraSubmitted.pdf\">Bales categories of feedback<\/a> and applied them to the forum posts looking to see if there had been effective interactions that supported the students.
