{"id":628,"date":"2018-09-29T09:07:48","date_gmt":"2018-09-29T09:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/?p=628"},"modified":"2018-09-29T09:12:33","modified_gmt":"2018-09-29T09:12:33","slug":"ht2labs-launch-curatr-lxp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/posts\/628","title":{"rendered":"HT2Labs launch Curatr LXP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1661.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-636\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1661-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Roary\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1661-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1661-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.ucem.ac.uk\/onlineeducation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1661-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the 20<sup>th<\/sup> September I attended a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ht2labs.com\/\" target=\"_new\">HT2Labs<\/a> launch event at the Darwin Centre in the Natural History Museum.\u00a0 An impressive venue and one which Ben Betts (CEO of HT2Labs) mentioned (more than once ) requires a substantial financial outlay to hire.\u00a0 Given that Curatr has been around for a few years you may be wondering what is so significant about the LXP part of the name that justifies such an event?\u00a0 Personally, I was impressed and feel that the venue was befitting of what was being launched.\u00a0 Let me explain\u2026<\/p>\n<p>When Red Panda (a personalised learning hub) was launched by HT2Labs around 18 months ago the team at HT2 had thought that in conjunction with Curatr and Learning Locker they had completed the tools required to deliver the three aspects of intrinsic human motivation &#8211; autonomy, mastery and purpose [Daniel H. Pink, <em>Drive<\/em>, 2009].\u00a0 Ben humbly explained that Red Panda hadn\u2019t met the mark and wasn\u2019t achieving what it was intended to do.\u00a0 This was quickly followed with the announcement that Red Panda is now extinct (the product not the animal).\u00a0 To start with it takes strong leadership to make such a decision and publicly declare it.\u00a0 However, more impressive is the way in which the lessons HT2 learnt from Red Panda have been focussed into producing an exciting and engaging Learning Experience Platform \u2013 if you are still with me that\u2019s where the LXP comes from.<\/p>\n<p>Curatr LXP now contains 2 parts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn \u2013 classic Curatr<\/li>\n<li>Develop \u2013 the best bits and more from Red Panda<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As you would expect this all links seamlessly with their Learning Record Store (LRS) \u2013 Learning Locker. It goes a lot further than this though as Curatr LXP comes with some significant developments.\u00a0 The first of these has involved a partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.filtered.com\/home\" target=\"_new\">filtered<\/a>, who have developed an AI engine called magpie.\u00a0 This is deeply integrated with Curatr LXP and adds value to the develop side by providing targeted recommendations for the user\u2019s development goals.\u00a0 Magpie also gets smarter and provides better recommendations as user\u2019s experiences evolve.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO of filtered, Marc Zao-Sanders neatly summarised the power\/use of tools filtered have developed by reading 2 extracts from books by Yuval Noah Harari. The first, was related to the role that knowledge used to play and was essentially that \u2018\u2026knowledge used to be power\u2019.\u00a0 However, the opening sentence in Yuval\u2019s most recent book is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn a world deluged by irrelevant information, clarity is power\u201d [Yuval Noah Harari, <em>21 lessons for the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century<\/em>, 2018].<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The message &#8211; given the amount of information available in today\u2019s world, knowledge is no longer power, instead it is knowing what knowledge to use.<\/p>\n<p>To demonstrate the develop side, Curatr LXP is shipped with a Leadership skills library, which comprises ~5,000 assets. A great resource but also a great way of demonstrating how the recommendations work.<\/p>\n<p>If that isn\u2019t enough there is also the addition of a social intelligence dashboard (SID). This provide real-time semantic analysis of comments\/posts that have been made.\u00a0 To develop the models literally tens of thousands of comments have been marked by hand using the Community of Inquiry (CoI) concept.\u00a0 The resultant information available in the dashboard enables the easy identification of potential high\/low performers, which therefore enables learners to be either provided with greater challenges or provided with any support they may require.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s clear to see that the passion for creating the best possible learning experience (and platform) runs throughout HT2 and whilst achieving high levels of excellence they remain humble and open to feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this launch event UCEM had been assessing the products at HT2 and I must admit we were struggling to see how Curatr and Red Panda would enhance what we are currently delivering.
